Here is my recap of the May 27th edition of Ultimate Sinner on Ozzy’s Boneyard (SiriusXM channel 38). The songs were picked by some dude named Phil from Massapequa NY. I definitely went to college with someone from that town, but it was so long ago I can’t remember who it was.
- Judas Priest – Hellion/Electric Eye
- KISS – Shout it Out Loud
- Iron Maiden – The Number of the Beast
- Motley Crüe – Shout At The Devil
- Ozzy Osbourne – I Don’t Want To Change The World
“Hellion/Electric Eye” are actually two tracks but you almost never hear them separately. “Hellion” is a short instrumental that leads right into “Electric Eye”. These are the first two tracks off of Judas Priest’s Screaming For Vengeance album. I have fond memories of this album. It came out in the summer before I entered the 8th grade, and in addition to a number of classic tracks, I totally loved the album cover.
KISS was probably the first hard rock/heavy metal band I listened to when I was a really young kid in the 1970s. Although they don’t rank high on my list of favorite bands, their songs are still fun to listen to. I saw them back in 2008 and it was a fun show. “Shout it Out Loud” is off of their fourth album, Destroyer, which was released in 1976. Pretty solid album overall, with “God of Thunder” being my favorite track.
As mentioned in other posts, Iron Maiden is my favorite band, and like most Maiden fans I rank The Number of the Beast album at or near the top of any list of great heavy metal albums. With the notable exception of the opening track, “Invaders”, this album is one great song after another. the title track, “The Number of the Beast”, is probably one of the better known Maiden songs among people who aren’t hardcore fans of the band. If you haven’t heard it, take a listen to hear Bruce Dickinson hold a scream for an incredible 15 seconds at the 1:17 mark of the song. Or better yet, go to a Maiden concert and see him perform it live!
“Shout At The Devil”, from the Shout At The Devilalbum (duh), is a straight-forward. no-frills heavy metal by a young band. Despite it’s relative simplicity it has a ton of power and is always a crowd favorite in concert.
Ah, Ozzy Osbourne. When it comes to Ozzy I’m a much bigger fan of his work with Black Sabbath than I am his solo stuff. He’s had some great solo albums and songs but also some not so great work. “I Don’t Want To Change The World” falls into that in-between category for me. It’s off of the No More Tears album, which is one of Ozzy’s better solo efforts and commercially was pretty successful. The late, great Lemmy Kilmister, lead singer of Motörhead and a close friend of Ozzy’s, got a writing credit for this track as well. RIP Lemmy :(.
That’s it for the May 27th Ultimate Sinner. Nice work by my man Phil from Massapequa, NY. I give it a 5 out of 5. If you want to hear it yourself, you can search for “Ultimate Sinner” on the SiriusXM app or on their website.
