Here is my recap of the July 8th edition of Ultimate Sinner on Ozzy’s Boneyard (SiriusXM channel 38). Special guest Electra Mustaine, daughter of Dave Mustaine of Megadeth fame, picked the tunes. She had a pretty interesting and eclectic list of tunes.

  1. Girlschool – Emergency
  2. Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song
  3. Lita Ford & Ozzy Osbourne – Close My Eyes Forever
  4. Pink Floyd – Time
  5. Megadeth – Train of Consequences

Girlschool are one of the oldest all-female rock bands still out there. They got their start in the “New Wave of British Heavy Metal” era and did a lot of touring with Motörhead. I don’t know them very well, despite being a big fan of the NWOBHM era. But this track definitely rocked hard and was fun to listen to!

“Immigrant Song”, the first track on Led Zeppelin III, needs no introduction. It has one of the most iconic intros and riffs in rock history, and has also featured prominently in movies like “School of Rock” and “Thor: Ragnarok”. I’ve heard this song thousands of times and always reach to turn up the volume. A great choice for any Ultimate Sinner list.

“Close My Eyes Forever” was the biggest hit in Lita Ford’s solo career after she left The Runaways. This duet with Ozzy Osbourne is a classic hard rock ballad and comes from her 1988 solo album Lita. I always loved hearing this song due to the great synergy between Lita and Ozzy. Also, the music video (remember those?!) got a ton of airplay on MTV back in the day and always drew a crowd of me and my college buddies whenever it came on. Also a true story alert: I totally rocked this with the waitress at a karaoke bar during a work event about 8 years ago. Unfortunately there is no video to back it up!

Pink Floyd is not a band in Ozzy’s Boneyard’s regular rotation. But one of the cool things about Ultimate Sinner is that anything goes! Electra played Pink Floyd’s song “Time” from their epic album The Dark Side of the Moon. This album is one of the biggest-selling albums of all time, and deservedly so. I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd in concert with my two older sisters in 1987 on the A Momentary Lapse of Reason tour, and to this day it ranks in my top 5 concerts. Check out this insane setlist on Setlist.fm – this is from the October 22nd, 1987 show at The Capital Centre in Landover MD!

Last but not least, Electra played a song by her dad’s band, which happens to be a little band called Megadeth :).  Train of Consequences is off of their 1994 album YouthanasiaI regret that I don’t know Megadeth’s catalogue nearly as well as I do other bands, but this song was a banger and I added it to my Spotify after hearing it. Give it a listen, you’ll thank me (and Electra) for it!

That’s it for the July 8th Ultimate Sinner. It was fun listening to Electra talk about her favorite songs and a fun story about a performance she gave with her parents in the crowd. Go catch a replay of this by searching for “Ultimate Sinner” on the SiriusXM app or on their website
